• Protects them from different diseases.
• It is responsible for regulating what is the growth of said plants, since it contains the molecules specialized in that task.
• Achieve total and absolute rigidity to what is the cellular structure.
• It provides them with a porous system that is the one that proceeds to correctly distribute the water and circulate it in the best possible way. This function must be established that it is also carried out with minerals and other substances as nutrients.

The cell walls of mushrooms they give hardness to its structure and allow to preserve the form. They also function as a barrier to prevent toxic elements from entering the fungus.

In the case of the bacterial cell wall, we would have to say that there are two types of them: gram-negative and gram-positive.

In the plants , the cell wall provides support and can be divided, depending on the species, in primary wall (which adapts to the development of the cells), secondary (the sector closest to the plasma membrane) and middle lamella (the space that links the cell walls primary of a pair of cells located contiguously).

Specifically, in the case of algae we can state that its cell wall is composed of polysaccharides, cellulose or glycoproteins, for example.
